DETROIT (WWJ) – Another new business is moving into downtown Detroit — and this one is bringing burgers.

A favorite in New York City, Shake Shack will open a restaurant in the First National Building at 660 Woodward Ave. next year, at the base of Campus Martius Park. [See it on a map].

Born and always busy in New York, it’s billed as a modern day “roadside burger stand” known for its 100% all-natural, antibiotic-free Angus beef burgers, chicken with no added hormones, flat-top dogs, frozen custard and crinkle cut fries.

In addition to the Shack classics, the menu at the Detroit location will feature location-specific frozen custard concretes, a wine selection and local craft beers to enjoy on a patio overlooking the park.

Shake Shack CEO Randy Garutti says they’re proud to be part of the “incredible renaissance” happening in Detroit.

“We’re looking forward to being an active participant in this creative and forward-looking community. It’s an honor and a privilege for Shake Shack to add to the dynamic fabric of this great city,” Garutti said, in a media release.

“Detroiters love burgers and hot dogs and we’re excited to bring some of the best out there to the people of this city. Shake Shack’s great service, small business mentality and commitment to integrating themselves into the local landscapes of their stores makes them a perfect fit for our one-of-a-kind collection of retailers and eateries on Woodward Avenue,” said Dan Mullen, Bedrock Detroit Executive Vice President. “Shake Shack thrives in bustling urban cores around the world. They will feel right at home at Campus Martius Park.”
